Bio
Mona Orstad Hansen (1976) is a visual artist. She works essentially with developing
a contemporary abstract painting, but also with relational aesthetics dealing with the
environment. She studied at the Art Academy in Trondheim and has a Bachelor of
Arts with First Class Honours, Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.
The most recent solo exhibitions are: Structures By The Sea, Galleri Sult (2011),
Stavanger and Nature Breaking Through, Galleri LNM (2010) Oslo. Selected group
exhibitions: Høstutstillingen 2011, Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo, Kakofoni, Kunstmuseet
KUBE, Ă…lesund and Desember Salon, Project 0047, Berlin.
Moving back to Stavanger in 2005 she initiated the Grasroots Projects at Rogaland Art
Center. Starting with the making of a park (2008) and Freeride- Utopian Bicycle for
Stavanger (2009). The Grasroots is a continuously growing project investigating the
interface between art, environment and democracy.
In 2009 she was on a 6 months residency in Paris at Cité Internationale des Arts, The
Ingrid Lindbäck Langaard foundation. Orstad Hansen has received several grants,
including a 2- year working grant. Her work has been commissioned by institutions
such as: Stavanger Art Museum, The Norwegian Bank and private collections. In
2011 Orstad Hansen was given the prize and title The Artist of the Year 2011, in
Stavanger.
